  Some people think travelling abroad is necessary, while others think that is not necessary because TV and the internet can give the same information. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

  To glimpse exotic cultures, some deem that overseas travels are no longer necessary since TV and internet have made everything possible. However, while people can enjoy certain convenience brought by such cutting-edge technologies, they may also risk losing some other essential things that in-person experience can offer.

  For one thing, rarely can viewers and net surfers get fully immersed in their “travel” in front of a plain screen. Admittedly, by simply clicking a remote controller or a mouse, people can access some programmes and websites that feature renowned tourist attractions abroad, either natural scenery or artificial landmarks, engaging in a virtual tour without stepping a foot on another continent. However, online experience is overshadowed by the in-person one, owing to the atmosphere. It is the whistle of a bird or the red brick embedded in an ancient wall that can spark a person’s sense of connection with the exotic natural landscape or the history witnessed by the wall having stood on this land for centuries, thus opening the door to full immersion; this, nevertheless, is entirely impossible with a cold screen no matter how vivid the images it can present.

In other words, a single word or a body gesture in locals’ daily life can easily facilitate tourists to capture the view of how those locals live, whereas such chances tend to wither away when people merely sweeping over the pictures presented on the websites.
