After Columbus’s voyage to North America, Native Americans was reported to use rubber, although Para was favored by rubber cultivation than Castilla Elastica.

P2 A Spanish chronicler Juan de Torquemada described a more practical use of rubber. He said that the Spaniards of Mexico found the milk of the tree useful in tapping its sap. Then a French mathematician Charles Le Condamine found the real interest of rubber among Europeans.

P3 In 1818, a British man invented waterproof cloth and named it as rubber. In 1820, another British developed a machine to re-use the waste strips of rubber goods.

P4 Vulcanisation, which is a chemical process for converting natural rubber or related polymers into more durable materials by the addition of sulfur is introduced by Thomas Hancock.

P5 Problems remained that rubber is sometimes smelt bad or it could turn pliant when warm or rigid when cold. People came out with ideas to stabilize it so that it became a versatile material.

P6 After improvement, rubber was widely used in industry. For example, rubber was found in steam engines in the Industrial Revolutions.

P7 The most important invention about rubber is the pneumatic tyre by Dunlop. This invention promoted the mass production of motors as well as the import and export of crude rubber. For example, Britain imported only 211kg crude rubber in 1840. Then it increased to 10,000kg in 1853, then 6 times in 1874.

P7. The quick adoption of small satellites established a space capability for Asian countries and offers them the possibility to reduce researching time. The cost of using satellites could also be reduced.

P8. The global increase of using small satellites help to replace costly space and military standard components. It may result in a highly competitive Asian satellite manufacturing industry.

P9. The laws of physics and the principles of electronics and mechanics know no political or cultural boundaries. Management is very much influenced by education, culture, and history. These factors also have an effect on costs, lead times, product designs and international sales.

P10. Space technologies and applications have shown profound effects on Asian culture, commerce, and communities.
