本周我们来学习与校园生活相关的词汇。

1. appointment /??po?ntm?nt/
n. 约会；约定
常见搭配：book/schedule/make/arrange an appointment with someone.
e.g. She made an appointment with her professor.
e.g. Viewing is only allowed by appointment.
e.g. He phoned me and called the appointment off.
补充：by appointment 经过预约
call off 取消

n．任命；委派；指派
e.g. We’d like to announce the appointment of Julia Lewis as head of sales.
e.g. Our department expects to make five new appointments this year alone.

2. attendance /?'tend(?)ns/
n. 出勤;考勤;出勤情况
搭配：take attendance 点名
e.g. Attendance at lectures is necessary and we expect at least 90% attendance at this university.
e.g. Attendance at all classes is mandatory.
补充：mandatory adj. 强制性的; 法定的

v. attend 参加；出席；上学
e.g. He'll be attending the university in the fall.
e.g. That way you can cover a lot of coursework and attend lectures and seminars during the day.
补充：coursework (尤指计入最终成绩的)课程作业

3. orientation /???r??n'te??(?)n/
n. 岗前、学前、课前等的情况介绍，培训，训练；
如：an orientation meeting/session 介绍会
如：Orientation day: 迎新日: a period before the start of an academic year at a university or tertiary institutions. A variety of events are held to orient and welcome new students during this period.

e.g. New students need to go through a short orientation before they begin classes.
e.g. Orientation Day was a fantastic opportunity for new students to get to know the school and the other students. Just keep an open mind and take part in as much as possible.

v. orient 引导
e.g. The program is intended to orient students toward a career in medicine.

4. renew /r?'nju?/
v. 使继续有效；延长…的期限
e.g. She renewed the reference book for her final paper.
e.g. You can renew your driver's license online.
e.g. He forgot to renew his passport and now it's expired.
e.g. Larry's landlord threatened not to renew his lease.
补充：driver’s license 驾照
expire v. 到期;期满;失效
lease n. 租约

5. alumnus /??l?mn?s/
n. 校友；毕业生；
plural：alumni /?'l?mna?/
e.g. The event is a popular one, not only with the alumni of the universities, but also with rowers in general and the public.
e.g. Several famous alumni have agreed to help raise money for the school's restoration fund.
