It is clear that throughout the given period, this European country attracted less Russian students in comparison with those from the other three countries. Meanwhile, the number of applicants from Japan and USA increased, while that of Chinese candidates showed a downward trend.

In the beginning 2 years, China remained the leading place of origin for international students, although its figure declined noticeably from 28000 to 22000. By contrast, these two years witnessed a remarkable growth in the figures for prospective students from Japan and USA, with the figures falling to 8000 and 14000 respectively. In both years, only roughly 4000 Russian students hoped to study in this given European country for their college years.
