阅读:
为什么the American Burying Beetles数量decline：
1. Pesticides used by farmers leak into the ground and be poisonous。
2. human development destroy the habitat for beetles ,Habitat被fragment了。
3. competition with other animals for food source。

听力反驳：
1、东北部beetles在杀虫剂第一次使用前已经大量下降，中部的beetles在杀虫剂使用后还存活了很久，所以没有必然联系。
2、有另一种和burying beetle有一样的habitat和eating habits的beetle也遭遇了fragmentation，但是那种beetle数量没大幅下降所以不能解释。
3、beetle灵敏的嗅觉可以让他们快速找到很远的食物，并且释放chemical让其他动物都找不到，所以食物竞争不会成为数量下降大幅的原因

一是让校园看起来更有吸引力，因为它会增加一个很好的焦点来吸引人们的注意力
二是校园草坪的中心是一个完美的位置。

听力：
女生反对。
一是这个钱应该花在旧建筑的修复上，没必要买雕塑。二是那片空地是学生活动的地方，买来的雕塑放在学校会占据学校的场地，影响学生的其他的活动。

Campus Sculpture
A graduate of the university recently gave the university a large sum ofmoney to be used to beautify the campus grounds. Administrators are considering using the money to purchase a sculpture by a well-known artist for the main lawn. I enthusiastically support the idea. I think installing a majon sculpture would be the best way to make our campus look more attractive since it would add a nice focal point to catch people's attention. Also, the center of the campus lawn is a perfect location: it's spacious, open, and currently not used.

Flipped Classroom
With traditional teaching methods. teachers use class time to lecture and introduce new information to students. Students then perform the challenging task ofapplying the newinformation by completing assignments outside ofclass without assistance from the teacher.Research has shown however, that students may learn better when traditional methods are reversed and teachers instead use the flipped classroom method.Using this methodteachers often record lectures for students to listen to on their own outside of class.This makes class time available for students to complete the more challenging task of applying the new information from the lecture by working on assignments in class with guidance from the teacher.
Question：Explain how the example from the lecture illustrates the flipped classroom method.

听力：老师用他的数学老师朋友举例。
例子：过去，习惯上课讲新数学概念留作业，但是学生们错误多，学不会.。
现在，他录课，学生自己回去学，课上他出题，让学生答，当场解决疑问。学生成绩更好了，更擅长quiz了，学的懂了。

Task 4:
prarie dogs挖洞给草原带来的好处
1.草原犬打的洞可以为其他不能自己打洞的动物提供庇护所：prairie dogs’ habitat provide habitat for other animals from their predators。
Eg：owl,他们用pair dogs’ habitat来保护幼崽

2.打洞可以松土，促进水的吸收，从而让植物长得更好：pair dogs’ habitat losen the soil making it more suitable for plants to grow.
Eg：The grass layer is thicker above the pair dogs’ habitat

1、天文学：地球为什么适宜人类居住，讨论了其他行星比如火星，金星的区别

2、美国交通的发展历史：
先是修建了伊利诺伊运河，促进了很多城市和五大湖的互通，很多城市经济得到了发展，后来发现运河的建造和维护成本都很高，于是开始发展铁路，建造成本低，速度更快。

3、火星上面存在水的证据。
一是火星上曾经有很多河床；二是小行星的撞击会使温度升高然后形成了一些形成了降雨，与此同时也会产生一些温室气体和水蒸气然后，形成了火星的大气。

4、marsupial opossum。
讲marsupial比placenta更加原始，体现在头骨窄小，牙多，脑子小。
marsupial在South note America, Africa还是 landmass时候存在，但是大陆分裂之后，很多地方的marsupial由于缺少竞争力死了。只有South的还有，但是South和north再合并的时候，North上进化的大型食肉动物对marsupial造成很大威胁。现在只有澳大利亚，south america还有marsupial。
很多人觉得他们是living fossil,但其实他们在100-1500年前evolve过一次，所这个说法不准。
现在由于人类活动，很多地方不适合大型动物居住，但是marsupial啥都吃，人类的垃圾、食物之类的反而成了他们的生存优势。

5、犁地的工具。
一种S工具和一种heavy工具和社会发展的关系。heavy更好用 ,好用但不是所有人都用。

6、美国某地湿地流失的三个原因和解决措施。
美国某地wetland loss非常严重，原因如下：
(1)wetland有tilt，会不断被erode，但是有Mississippi River的sediments，达到一个流失和补充的平衡。但是人们修dams，reservoir减少了Mississippi River的sediments和flood的频率，入不敷出，流失变多，沉积的泥土变少，侵蚀更严重。
(2)人们开采oil，建cannal，pipes,这些东西使一些地方不适合植物生长了，没了植物的固土，进一步流失。
(3)一种入侵动物（praire dogs）也会对wetland有害，原本它的fur有经济价值，人们捕杀它获利，间接控制了它的数量，但是现在不值钱了，praire dogs数量多。
政府有一些政策企图改善，例如减少开采、控制大坝、蓄水池，增加floods，但是很多人赞同，渔民觉得增加放水淡水变多，水里生物会有影响。下游居民怕洪水被迫搬家。开采减少获利减少等。但是最终政府出台法律。

7、冰河时代末期人类获取食物方式的变化

1、学生应聘校园餐厅服务员，他会法语和一点中文，而且有服务生经验，老师很满意，沟通上班时间。
2、学生想在下个月姐姐的婚礼上写首诗念，求助老师。
老师表示教的是poem欣赏、分析，和写不能相提并论。就像能分析一幅画的techniques不代表能画。老师给了2个建议:1.下学期上一门另外一个教授写诗的课。学生表示来不及婚礼。2.去参加一个poem club,这个club会一起交流如何写诗，给建议、批评，会对学生有帮助。

Lecture
1、细菌和降雨的关系。
过去人们很少从bioprecipitation这个角度考虑细菌对于降水的关系，例如某种细菌可以提高水结冰的温度，导致细胞壁破碎，细菌就能吸收营营养。细菌运作原理主要是，细菌生在在植物上，经过蒸腾，雨水，降雨，这个细菌能到另一片地方，保证其生存。

2、16世纪荷兰艺术重要变化。
之前是顾客出钱指定画家作画，后来，荷兰有钱人变多了，于是对于画作需求变大。画家们也不再是按要求作画，而是自己画然后出售，并且还产生了新的绘画流派。

3、market equilibrium市场活动的外生因素。
交易对于除买卖双方外的影响。举例举例养蜜蜂传粉对环境好和种番茄喷pesticides对环境有害，但是交易双方都不会在乎这些。
