In the next two weeks we are going to be studying how bloiogical discoveries heve affeeted our lives. Research in biology provides ug with a better understanding of how our bodies work. As an introduction to this topic,I would llke for you to discuss among yourseives this question: What Is the most important thing a person can do to maintain good health? Please explain why you think so.

Claire：
I feel very strongly that a good diet is the most important factor in maintaining good health. Eating good, healthy foods, especially green vegetables, gives your body the materials it needs to stay strong. Good nutrition is the key to good health.

Paul:
Most people don't visit the doctor for regular checkups. Sure, if they feel sick. they go. but that's not enough. During a yearly exam a physician can help a patient address health issues before they become a larger problem. So I think preventive doctor visits are key to good health.

the Anasazi突然离开的原因
passage里面说的是因为战争，列了三个point:
1. ceremony places are burnt;
2. many things were left behind;
3. they left at the height of their culture

lecture里说的是因为water shortage/drought，反驳的点分别是：
1. they burn the places themselves as they will never come back;
2. attackers should carry the things if there was war;
3. the height of the culture makes the population larger and the food is not enough

Reading Passage
In the area today covered by several states in the American Southwest, the AnasaziIndians, who are sometimes referred to Pueblo lndians, once lived. The Anasazi had ahistory that went back into prehistoric times. They even experienced a several-hundred-year golden aged that ended around 1150. However, the Anasazi suddenlyvanished only a couple of centuries later. Many anthropologists attribute theirdisappearance to war.
Archaeologists have combed through the ruins of past Anasazi settlements. Onefeature they have noted is that there are a large number of places which wereburned. Even some of the Anasazi's ritual sites were burned. This strongly suggeststhe reason for burning was invasions of warring tribes. Many American tribes wouldburn the settlements of tribes that they defeated in battle. The fact that Anasazi siteswere burned shows that they too must have been conquered.
At these sites, archaeologists have also unearthed a large number of personal articlesthat once belonged to individual Anasazi. Many of these items, including pottery,jewelry, and other personal effects, would have been valuable to their owners. lnmost cases, their owners would not have left them. However, many believe thatbecause of a sudden onset of war, their owners were either slain or had not time togather their belongings as they left from approaching enemies.
There is also the geographical aspect of the Anasazi. Their settlements, which weremostly in modern-day Arizona and New Mexico, were located in places withabundant sources of water, a unique feature for the American Southwest. It wouldonly be natural that other tribes, coveting the rich land, would make war upon theAnasazi and attempt to drive them out, as they, apparently successfully, did.?

阅读：
学校决定在放电影的地方给学生提供零食，这样可以给学生提供更好的观影体验，也可以帮助学校社团筹集更多的资金。

听力中学生不同意：
第一个point 是will be a lot of noise, distract others，并且it is a small room。
第二个point是去看电影的人不多，不会卖出去多少，但是准备这些东西require a lot of effort

Task 3
Exploitation，指两个互相合作的物种看似互相benefit，但实际只有一种可以获益，另外一种不会得到好处。
lecture举的是bee和一种植物的例子，这种植物通过bee来传播花粉，但是它们不给蜜蜂提供食物

Task 4
讲的是wind power和wind farm的challenge。
一是并不稳定，因为需要有持续的风力才可以实现风力发电，但是大多数的时间并没有风。例如，美国西部田纳西没有持续稳定的风力，导致当地的几千户居民都突然失去了电力供应。；
二是使用需要大量的传输成本，例如中国的沿海城市想从西部的风力发电厂购买电能，需要消耗高昂的运输成本，所以最后会放弃。?

段落1:Murals和Frescoes
Murals是建筑装饰的一部分，保存在墙壁或天花板上。室外壁画不容易在环境影响下保存。Frescoes是在室内的湿石膏上绘制的壁画，颜料渗入石膏并永久粘在墙上。
段落2:Fresco的限制和挑战
一些颜料不能在湿石膏中混合，必须在干燥的石膏上绘制。艺术家每次只能在新鲜涂抹的石膏上工作一小部分。几个工作日之间的休息在作品上可见。
段落3:Fresco绘画的准备工作
需要在开始涂抹石膏的个别区域之前准备好整个构图。艺术家使用规模相同的纸上草图(卡通)将构图的基本线条传递到墙上。

5. Marsh Plant Strategies
段落1:引言

套一：
C1: 戏剧课老师和学生对话
学生错过了一节课，借到了笔记但是有些gaps，来问老师关于这部分的内容，这部分是Realism涉及到一些scimethod。学生疑惑:不是戏剧课吗怎么有sci。老师说:因为这些大师认为这可以帮助我们更好地理解世界，然后两个人围绕着realism开始讨论
1.观众不买账
2.逐渐向电影和电视方向发展

L2: Business Management
讲专一化训练与多任务训练的区别与好处，主要还是围绕着muli-tasktraining讲的
C2: 学生和Dean的对话
学生将要创建一个自行车回收的生意，向老师展示了一系列他的调研，但是，他不清楚到底可以赚多少钱。老师说挺不错的，但是第一，学校拔款越来越严格了;第二，得填表格获得委员会的同意。

套二：
C1: 女生想叫维修人员帮她修灯泡，顺便请求了一下能不能留着灯泡因为女生要设计一个parade float帮助她的chess club吸引更多人加入，目前的设计比较boring，教授也觉得less thrilling，所以加入这些设计可能会make it more interesting!不过呢，学校也要求了他们要用recycled materials，所以她才想出了这招。后面呢，那个维修工非常热情，提到了下周要plant，会有多的stick，branches等等，都可以提供给这个女生。

L1: 是讲advertisement如何对顾客产生心理作用的。一开始大多数人觉得这个是有 fixedorder的，但是后来发现很多时候这些行为的发生没有oder，用了一个ACB model。A-intention/C-Cognitive/D-Buyingaction。后续主要在谈影响A的因素。举了一个beachresort的例子。说要让更多人有vivid mental image，是drawing更好还是photo更好还是电脑处理过的图片更好(应该是这个最好)。

C2: 讲了一个conventional play，其features应该是有mystery，audience knows more than characters 还有 surprising endings.

L2:是zoology，讲了很多动物用地磁来导航，首先讲了海龟，然后是用了德国的一个科学家观测一种Europeanbirds的例子证实。接着说哺乳动物也有这种本领，比如说rats(用迷宫测试)还有whales，但是呢whales因为是group animals，有leader whale，所以一个错了就会导致后续whales一起搁浅。最后一个学生说了未来可能地磁会发生reverse，可是教授说这个reversal发生的比较慢，不会有很大影响。影响更大的应该是human impacts.

L3: 天文学，先讲了用opticaltelescope的局限性，然后说用harper telescope。主要是发现了一个brighterstar(不是supernova!是star)然后就解释了下为啥它会 brighter，最后说到它是观察以来发现的最亮的星，这会帮助天文学家发现更多星星。
